Product Side Startup Seeks Purple Unicorn (Who Also Juggles)

The scene:

A product-side, well-funded startup in the creative industry with a religiously Agile environment came to us to help them identify a Senior Visual Designer with a good sense of UX best practices. They warned us that because of their high standards, they only interview 5% of candidates, and end up hiring only a handful of those in turn. The gauntlet was thrown!

The JWG solution:

We found them not one, but six, of these specialized designers, one of whom has been promoted to a management role in their mobile division. They were thrilled that someone finally “got them” and understood their specific, product-geared candidate persona, and we continue to work together happily and fruitfully.

European Mobile Innovation Firm Breaks Into USA Market

The scene:

A European-based, mobile/tablet-centric service design consultancy, new to NYC, sought to build an IxD + Visual Design team from the ground up and launch their American presence with a bang.

The JWG solution:

We conducted a “deep dive” with them to help them understand the lay of the land and the NYC candidate pool. By partnering closely with them, we helped them grow from a 3-person company in a co-working space, into a bustling, full-fledged design firm and a major player in the NYC mobile design scene. At one point, half of their NYC staff – across IxD, Visual, and Project Management – came from us! As they continued to expand in the US, we also helped them establish their SF office with key placements.

The Perfect Storm of Freelancers = Longterm Love

The scene:

A midsized, e-commerce agency landed a big client engagement and needed to build a temporary team extremely quickly. They wanted talent who not only possessed a very specific, hard-to-find, UI-geared skillset, but also a specific personality type (upbeat, gregarious, highly collaborative) to meld well with their existing team and their overall company culture, which was of paramount importance to them.

The JWG solution:

We flew into action to seamlessly present a bevy of candidates across Visual, UX Design, and Project Management, and eventually found them a team of 7 freelancers who fit both their skillset needs and culture. They executed brilliantly on the big client project: smiles all around! We happily continue our 7+ year relationship with them and have remained their trusted, go-to recruiters the moment they have a need.

Major Media Brand Blasts into Digital with a Bang

The scene:

A venerable, 90-year-old media and publishing corporation needed a Senior Visual Designer to add to their team, which acts as an internal agency to their 30+ magazine titles. They wanted someone with not only solid knowledge of UX best practices across web, mobile, and tablet, but who also had the interpersonal savvy to navigate and build relationships across many different publishing brands and departments. And, they needed this person in 3 weeks’ time! We had our work cut out for us.

The JWG solution:

We found them not one, but two, Senior Designers, almost immediately. The client liked them both so much – and felt that their slightly differently-focused skillsets would compliment each other and their business – that they hired both! Everybody won.
